Good, we do agree.
Schools
or anyone can buy very good CDs or find links to online flash
systems (that require broadband to run smoothly). These are very
well designed software and children love the animations and 3D
sounds etc.
Now let us answer
the following questions.
Each completed AGE animiated
modules/tutorials that can last for hours/days is about 20 - 40
kbytes in size
zipped. Can kilobytes contents be compared with megabytes
types of contents?
No of course! With kilobytes sized modules, we can send in
seconds on dialups for hours/days of usage.
See videos
on Additional Maths modules. The 21 modules of functions shown
here can be zipped into 37kbytes.
See
Chinese modules with 8 chapters animations and voice takes
up only 20kbytes zipped. Impossible? Then try
downloading it.
Need heavy graphics - mix AGE with
standard platforms
Yes ,
why not use powerpoint, html etc. Load the heavy graphics to
explain the essentials and then use AGE to do the exercises -
you get reasonably sized modules you can still send through a
dial up! Best of both worlds.
Read on...
1. Currently how many of your students are able to enjoy these
software in school (besides once a week in a computer lab)? Are
most able to afford to have their own? Look around. Most still
using books and paper based exercise books. Why?
What happen to the beautiful and flashy
animated modules? Not practical ! Why are students'
homework/learning today still mainly paper based?
2. After installing the LCD
projectors etc you have 25 or less minutes to conduct a
presentation, and likelihood of not finishing the day's lessons.
Can the students take the lessons (in CDs or flash modules - not
all have Internet ) to
access such contents comfortably at home?
No, not all. One cannot just duplicate entire CDs
nor do all students have broadband (even in cities) at home to access flash
based systems online. AGE no problem.
3. Even if your school do have broadband to access flash based
contents, how fast is the access when the entire nation is
accessing it the same time? Very slow
right? AGE immediate.
4. How many of the schools'
computers are linked to broadband to use independently.
Most schools have limited computers linked. Many do not even
have one especially the remote ones. AGE does not need Internet.
It runs offline.
5. Software are needed all the
time. How often can these contents arrive if your school does
not have broadband? Without software, is it a wonder that many
schools' computer labs are idle today?
Easiest is to use normal paper based exercises. AGE access is
instant.
6. Why until now, in spite of all the technologies, students are
still using paper based books and exercises for practically all
subjects. Even in developed countries, they are still mostly
paper based. Why? There is no practical
solution.
7. For rural schools where the
reach is very difficult and lack broadband connections, the
situations are even worse. The digital divides between city
schools and rural schools (including small townships) are
widening with no solutions in sight
(not
until AGE arrives).
8. The graphics are beautiful and 3Ds etc. When the examination
paper comes out with a diagram on that topic, will these
be printed in 3D full coloured or rather the plain 16 colors or
black/white as in AGE's diagrams?
AGE's diagrams.
9. Can the current systems
available in the schools today, able to go paperless and be
environment friendly? No why?
10. Can the students save money
paying for photocopies of exercises currently rather than using
the money for canteen? NO. AGE can.
11. Can existing systems in most schools today encourage use of
home computers for their homework and tutorials (animated not
dead text based) that ensure EVERYONE with or without
Internet (broadband or dail ups) to equally benefit from home
study? No. AGE no problem.
12. Can current systems ensure uniform, instant, same
contents being distributed to ALL schools in the country,
however remote? Not possible. Without this, how can any country succeed in implementing ICT in Mass Education?
God knows/ With AGE
it is possible.
13. Can current systems your school is having able to empower
your teachers to the level within minutes with or without
Internet for free?
Not likely and had
failed. AGE can.
14. Can a developing country,
with limited resources even dare to dream of using ICT in mass
Education using current available technologies?
As sure as the sun will set tomorrow...no.
AGE can make this possible.
15. Can current students
anywhere anytime with or without Internet access, be able to
intuitively access to any module he/she wants using current
available technologies? No.. Internet? You
take more time searching than learning that is for sure. CDs
where to find?
AGE ready made and is ready to use by a mere mouse click, copy and
paste.
16. Can most systems today work equally well on legacy computers
systems and OS like Windows 98?
Most no.
AGE can. Ideal for developing countries using refurbished
computers or cheap ULPCs.
17. Can the perennial problems of heavy schoolbags being
solved by current technologies? No.
Current systems not practical. AGE needs only a pen drive for
the entire syllabus. That is very light.
18 Children loves good animation to catch their
attention? Does that mean the books
should be thrown away because they are not animated? Why are
students still using books? Beautiful and expensive animations
can wow for a second, that's it. After that most are not
interested. They need to get down to the business of learning.
AGE serves that purpose. AGE is better than books and serves the
learning process and most important ...within their reach. Where
are all the CDs when you need them?
19. AGE modules can be produced very readily and fast by an
ordinary teacher without ICT training?.
Most are just too complicated
20. Cost of implementation
of ICT in Mass Education nationwide using currently technology
is well known to be very expensive and few countries including
developed ones can afford. With AGE it
costs only a fraction, using current infrastructures even the
poorest countries can afford.
....plus many more limitations of current technology trying to
address universal ICT in mass Education.
Now
you know why schools around the world are still very paper based
?
(-in spite of all the advances in
ICT in Education).
AGE is going to change
all that
Is there any
other more practical platform?
So at the end of the day, both available options, CDs or flash
systems are not
practical platforms for delivery of digital educational
contents on a mass nationwide scale.
What then is the solution? AGE is one such able to provide a
solution
AGE
solves ALL THE ABOVE PROBLEMS. ... see
the benefits and
how to use AGE
AGE is a good and practical solution
Yes, there is a platform to enable ICT in mass
education to be effected successfully. This is by using our simple platform
AGE (acronym for All Genius Educator).
Use in most remote areas
With this capability, even the most remote areas can easily
have access to fully animated multimedia modules anytime and
anywhere at very low running costs.
They can make use of simple dial ups Internet
links without having to incur huge costs. This is because AGE
modules need only seconds to download, and runs offline for the
entire community where AGE can be copied freely and run offline.
The cost is only a few seconds of the Internet connection fees.
As for the computers, even in areas without electricity, the XO (OLPCs
installed with WinXPs) computers with crank shaft using muscle power can run the
machines. These are extreme examples to show AGE can reach out
to anyone at minimal cost and thus make any attempts to connect
their entire nation a possibility.
if one can reach out to the most remote, cities and other less
remote areas would be no problem.
So for the first time, implementing uniform ICT in mass
Education is now possible.
Students can
bring home their homework
When modules can be so easily copied to pen drives or
diskettes, such modules can be taken home and completed by all
students with ease. There is no technology limitations since
even diskettes can be used on legacy computers. Such
arrangements using current state of art software are difficult
and most often impossible. Students cannot bring home their
homework digitally easily.
Teachers are empowered digitally
without massive training in ICT
Teachers would be able to have access to commonly
produced modules and exchanged very easily using AGE E-workbook
generator provided freely to schools.
