Possible Errors when using AGE
AGE works in normal Windows XP, Windows 9x. However, because certain computers are not configured
to run on 16 bit systems, a number of problems do surface.

The following are a few problems encountered by a small number of users..

  1 Error while installing.

If while installing, your computer generates an error with the message

" Windows\system32\config.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft Windows applications.
unable to run DOS or 16 bit Windows programs
" as shown below:-

You may also try to log in to microsoft help page here and follow the steps taken.

Then you must first check two files in c:\windows\system32 folder. One or both of these files could be corrupted or missing:- autoexec.nt and config.nt If that is the case, your may try to copy and paste the autoexec.nt or config.nt to the c:\windows\system32 folder.

The autoexec.nt and config.nt files can be found in this folder. Find the missing one and replace it. If both are missing then replace both.

If you feel too daunted by the instructions you can
get the missing files here . Just download, unzip, ok, and close.
Then try again to install the software.

Warning: before you do so make sure to back up your original config.nt and autoexec.nt files in your c:\windows\system32 folder, if you already have them in your computer. Those files may contain instructions for other applications. Should there be any unforeseen problem arising after doing the above, replace both these files with the ones you backed up earlier.

If it works but upon rebooting occurs again, then set the two files to "Read only ".

Please make sure you back up one or both of the above original autoexec.nt and config.nt files already in the c:\windows\system32.

Please be informed that we take no responsibilities for any error /loss that may arise out of use of the above information.  User takes full responsibilities for changes made to user's computer.

2  Error - you have not closed the previous AGE operation.

When this message appears, it means that AGE is still running and has to be closed first before running this program. The running program can be found at the bottom of the screen
.

3 While installing, computer asks " is this a file F or directory D "

If you see the screen just before the above question was prompted, the
words "xcopy age c:\windows\desktop\AGE /y" select D for directory.

4 When AGE goes to or return from Windows modules, the screen turns blank.

Press the Windows keys to get back the screen. For those older keyboards without this key, use Alt Tab (press same time) keys to switch to and from modules. User should get back the screen. Press enter key can assist.

5 It takes some time closing Each application.

When closing AGE, for those who have enabled the Windows Sound driver, AGE closes this driver. Normally it closes quite fast. For slower machines this may take a few more seconds. However to hasten the closing, press the Windows keys to close it almost immediately. Make sure you close the AGE module by clicking the AGE module at the bottom of the screen. Otherwise error 1 described above may occur.

6 Mouse does not appear when using AGE.
This happens to very few computers we know of. Consult your supplier about the set up.

7 AGE cannot access windows applications from AGE.

To overcome it, user has to modify the Icon through which user access the AGE application.

Right click the icon, choose properties; Program; Advanced and toggle of the tick off  the first box  "Prevent MS-DOS based programs from detecting Windows" if it is on.

See picture help on this error

8  Prompt for file or Directory

Choose Directory.

This prompt occurs because in attempting to copy the files over, the folder has not been created. If this is the case create the directory first.
